Rewards Program

The Starfish Board of Directors has established the following credit ($25 per month reduction in your Condo Fee) for approved participation in our work days. 

The Starfish Association has two official work days that qualify for potential credits.  The credit workdays will be chosen and declared by the Board of Directors at a time to ensure all owners have as much time as possible to sign up and arrange to attend.  The days will be held in the spring and / or the fall.  

The Board of Directors will post work days the Starfish website’s home page in order for owners to register for their date of choice.  Credit will only be given to the owners who sign up and work on the agreed work day.  If an owner shows up to work without registering, they will not receive credit.  A confirmation e-mail will be sent to those registering if you include an e-mail address.   

The maintenance committee will prepare a list containing the names of those who register for each workday and the owner will sign in on that day.  Confirmation will be provided to Mana-jit, Inc. Property Management in order for your account to be credited. The Board of Directors encourages everyone to register as early as possible since cut off dates will be established by maintenance committee for each workday date so that jobs may be assigned and materials acquired.  The Board of Directors hopes everyone will participate.  If there are concerns about owners ability to perform tasks, jobs will be assigned on an individual’s physical capabilities.  No one will be refused a chance to help.       

The reason for this change in policy is that owners are showing up to work without notifying anyone.  This action makes it hard for the maintenance committee to ensure that it has scheduled the proper amount of projects to be assigned for that workday or to arrange for materials for the projects. The result of people showing up without signing up has caused several owners to express some concern that people are not working a full day and still receive credit.

History of the Starfish Association Work Weekends

Starfish work days started back in 2003, when a group of Owners got together one weekend to move parking lot stones and remove some over grown trees from the landscaping beds. At the end of the day, the first deck, railing high pine trees were cut, placed in a large dumpster and removed.

After a successful weekend and planting of new shrubs in front of Building IV and V, the Owners in Building III wanted theirs completed also … hence the birth of our work weekends. 

The original work was completed on both Saturdays and Sundays but has now transitioned to single workdays. 

All kinds of work has been completed, using the skills of various individuals. From paint spraying the garage ceilings to power washing stairs ways, installing a top layer on our beds to rebuilding the shower sidewalks, re-roofing the electric closets to installing new lighting in garage areas, parking lot, stairways and porches. 

We always include anyone who would like to help and give them jobs within their abilities or health issues.

Saving money on contractor expenses and getting work completed properly was the main driving point when we initially started.  We have Owners that are contractors and electricians by trade and maintain that the work we complete on our own is quality work.

A more important theme of comradery and sense of community has been a greater outcome.  We enjoy meeting for breakfast prior to starting our day and having lunch together provided by the Association.  We meet new owners, joke with older members and welcome everyone.  We are the envy of the Associations around us and many have started their own work days. 

Please join us on the next workday as there is a job waiting, a joke to be told and generally a good time to be had, in addition to credit on your Condo Fees
